NIZWA FORT & SOUQ

Nizwa Fort – Prime attraction, ancient Nizwa Fort, consists of seven wells, a number of prison and prosecution ground with informative exhibits and artefacts displayed. There is also a traditional gift shop and permanent exhibition that illustrates the geographical history of Oman.

Nizwa Souq – One of the oldest authentic souqs in the country, this extensive marketplace is in separate blocks behind the great, crenellated piece of city wall that overlooks the wadi. Part of the souq is dedicated to antiques, handicrafts and pottery. Nizwa Antiques & Gift shop located in the central souq is the most promising one to buy souvenirs !

Jebel Akhdar

JEBEL AKHDAR (The Green Mountain)

Famous for its labyrinth of wadis and terraced orchards, where pomegranates, apricots and roses grow in abundance due to its mild Mediterranean climate. It rises to a height of 2,980 m (9,780 ft) and encompasses the Saiq Plateau at 2,000 m above sea level.

JEBEL SHAMS (Mountain of Sun)

It is the Highest Mountain famous for balcony walk. It is known for the view into the spectacularly deep Wadi Ghul lying alongside. It is also the first place to receive sunrise in Oman. In the summer, the temperature is around 20 °C (68 °F) and in the winter it drops to less than 0 °C (32 °F).

Al Hoota Cave

AL HOOTA CAVE

Estimated to be over 2 million years old, it is the first and only show cave in the Arabian Peninsula. Contains a rich ecosystem that includes four lakes, it is here that one can see the rare blind fish – Garra Barreimiae and many other animal species living in the cave including bats (Rhinopoma Muscatellum), arthropods, mollusks, spiders, snails and water beetles.

MISFAT AL ABRIYEEN

A unique mountainous Omani oasis village located 1,000 m above sea level, notable for both its traditional architecture and agriculture that has been a self-sustaining cohesive community based on the ancient falaj irrigation systems for at least 2000 years. The village boast amazing agricultural terraces, beautiful alleys and old houses that are traditional mud houses with palm fronds roofs and are unique in that they are build on solid rock foundations providing security during the olden times.

Misfah Al Abriyyin

JABREEN CASTLE

Built in 1675 by Imam Bil-Arab Bin Sultan, Jabreen. It is basically a palace constructed in times of peace by a ruler who was passionate about science and art thus an important center of learning for astrology, medicine and Islamic law. The most interesting feature of this castle is the elaborately painted ceiling.

BAHLA FORT

One of four historic fortresses situated at the foot of the Jebel Akhdar and the country’s only UNESCO-listed fort added in 1987.The fort is believed to have been built between the 12th and 15th century by the Banu Nebhan tribe who inhabited the area at the time and were known for controlling the trade of frankincense. The Bahla Fort was also known as one of the oldest fortresses in the country.
